“Our state court system in New York is absolutely insane. It has enabled political people to control the courts, and they don’t want to give it up — so it’s very hard to get legitimate change that would be beneficial to the public.”
– The Honorable David Saxe, NY Appellate Division Justice (retired, 2017)
February 8, 2018–New York, New York–Today the Families Civil Liberties Union releases its latest report on widespread lawlessness and corruption among New York’s–and the nation’s–family courts. From the expose:
After an exhaustive survey of litigants, attorneys and judges in New York State’s family and matrimonial courts, and with the cooperation of numerous organizations and individuals, the Families Civil Liberties Union presents this wide-reaching report into the family court system of New York. It reveals corruption, cronyism, waste and abuse that require urgent public attention.”
“The family courts are operating a kidnapping and extortion racket.”
– Dr Stephen Baskerville, author, “Taken into Custody: The War against Fathers, Marriage and the Family” (2007) and “The New Politics of Sex: The Sexual Revolution, Civil Liberties & The Growth of Governmental Power” (2017).
“The expose is by far the most detailed and sophisticated report of New York’s corrupt family courts as has been produced to date. It names names, institutions, and directly confronts and accuses those responsible for the despicable dysfunction. Unsurprisingly, those at the center of this atrocious scandal have declined to respond or participate in the investigation–further sealing the validity of their indictment” says Cole Stuart, Executive Director, California Coalition for Families and Children–an ally of Families Civil Liberties Union in achieving family court exposure and reform.
According to Sebastian Doggart, President, Families Civil Liberties Union, New York Chapter,
The report focuses on misconduct by 45 judges. It also exposes corruption in the Commission on Judicial Conduct, the publicly funded body that is supposed to provide oversight over the judiciary. And it reveals the fraudulent role played by Helene Weinstein, the chair of the Legislature’s powerful Ways and Means Committee, in financing the family courts, without oversight.
This report is timely and relevant because the New York judiciary is currently asking for $3.1 billion in new public funding for the coming year, an increase of 3.4% — higher than any other government entity. This application is currently being considered by both the NY Legislature and Governor Cuomo. This report shows why all funding for the judiciary should be frozen until the evidence of systematic fraud in the judiciary are fully investigated.
The judiciary receives far less scrutiny from the press than any other branch of government. Yet this report shows that our family courts have become a school for scoundrels, awash with bribery, cronyism, waste and abuse. Please help to shine a spotlight on a racket that is causing huge damage to our families and our democracy.
Let’s expose these crooks” says Doggart.
We at WeightierMatter.com commend this report to your attention and study as a road map not only to the widespread and well-documented corruption within New York’s family courts, but the tens of thousands of identical schemes and racketeering ongoing in jurisdictions throughout the nation.
